This series goes deep with some of the most compelling figures in commercial real estate: the deal-makers, the game-changers, the city-shapers and the larger-than-life personalities who keep CRE interesting. Born and raised between the South Bronx and Harlem, Malik Yoba is best known for his acting career, starting with his breakout role in the 1993 cult classic Cool Runnings and parts in the TV shows Empire, New York Undercover and Arrested Development. But Yoba has been actively involved in real estate development since 2017, when he launched Yoba Development.
I Build New York (IBNY) - Our education platform that uses creativity and unique partnerships to promote financial literacy, diversity, equity and inclusion in the commercial real estate industry through content, curriculum, community engagement and equity crowdfunding.
Yoba Development has recently launched “I Build NY”, a pilot program which is the first real estate development education platform and curriculum being introduced to NYC Department of Education public high school students. This groundbreaking initiative in conjunction with Yoba Development’s partnership with Pratt Undergraduate School of Architecture is being offered at The Brooklyn STEAM Center, an innovative career and technical education hub for 11th and 12th grade students from eight Brooklyn high schools who’s mission is to deliver innovative, industry-informed experiences which empower students to take charge of their futures, and create a diverse, skilled talent pipeline for the computer science, technology, media, culinary, construction and manufacturing and now real estate development industries.
Upon completion of the pilot the “I Build NY” program will be offered to students citywide through an immersive summer program that will continue in the fall semester. Given Yoba Development’s national footprint and partnerships, we are perfectly positioned to continue our education initiatives in cities across America.
